COMMUNCATIONS DIRECTOR

Job Type:  Full-time Salaried, Exempt Position

Reports to: Church Administrator

Main Function: The primary responsibility of the Communications Director is to make disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world. As a committed follower of Jesus Christ and a spiritual leader, the Director will recruit, develop, equip, and lead others in faithful service to God. The Director should use his or her spiritual gifts, education, and experiences to lead in creative ways, encouraging the church to grow beyond its existing ministries.

Qualifications:

  • A heart for the local church, a growing relationship with Jesus Christ, and a passion to use communications to reach others for Christ
  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, media, or a related field
  • At least 2-4 years of experience in communications; church communications experience preferred
  • Proficient in Creative Suite programs, such as Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator, and Acrobat Pro
  • Graphic design experience
  • Proficient in MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, Publisher, PowerPoint)
  • Experience in marketing management and strategic planning
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Organized, creative thinker, and highly productive, willing, and able to manage multiple projects at once
  • Action-oriented and displays focus, passion, and initiative
  • Strong time management skills, ability to meet scheduled deadlines
  • Energetic, self-starter with a strong work ethic, attention to detail, team-oriented, and commitment to producing high-quality designs

Principal Duties:

  • Responsible for leadership and team development, oversight, and execution of all aspects of Communications, Marketing, Media, and Audio-Visual elements within the church and the community
  • Responsible for implementing strategic marketing plans, providing content, and editing communications for a consistent experience across all channels
  • Lead efforts in areas like social media, print advertising, commercial advertising, and content marketing
  • Establish project timelines and enforce deadlines
  • Research trends in design, advertising, and digital media marketing
  • Collect metrics and evaluate campaign performance
  • Create, maintain, and analyze marketing plans
  • Shoot, select, and edit photos of special events and services, ministry opportunities, and day-to-day activities for promotional usage online and in print
  • In coordination with the Technical Director, plan, film, and edit videos for ministry opportunities and worship
  • Maintain an active and positive social media presence
  • Oversee website management in conjunction with Publications Director
  • Ensure accuracy and consistent branding in all church publications and correspondence
  • Responsible for advertising within the church and to the community
  • Work cooperatively with clergy, staff, and lay leaders to gather necessary information to effectively communicate weekly messaging of the church
  • Oversee print and digital materials relating to promotions, ensuring they are executed with excellence
  • Monitor the use of logos and images that represent FUMC
  • Submit annual budget for communications
  • Responsible for welcoming those who attend services and events (both members and guests), helping people find information they need and directing them to desired destination, answering questions, and reinforcing the values and principles of the church
  • Oversee Welcome Center coordination on Sundays and assist with the recruitment and coordination of greeters and ushers. Ensure Welcome Center is stocked with up-to-date information about the church’s ministries
  • In conjunction with facilities staff, ensure hospitality areas are prepared and maintained on Sundays and for special events.
  • Participate in continual professional growth and development
  • Participate in weekly worship planning and other ongoing committees and meetings
  • Be available to staff and church members by maintaining regular office hours as well as returning phone calls & emails
